About Figment Game Studios
An indie game studio making atmospheric, systems-driven games about pressure, consequence, and worlds that do not wait for the player.
Figment Game Studios is an Australian independent studio building atmospheric, systems-driven games that feel like they keep moving when the player looks away.
The name Figment points at the kind of feeling we are drawn to: a presence implied more than explained, a shape the mind completes from fragments, something almost seen but never fully pinned down. That idea sits behind the studio identity, but it also says something about the games we want to make.
We are interested in worlds that are indifferent, dangerous, and alive. Places where the player is important because of what they do, not because the world was built around them. Places where resources move, factions remember, safety is temporary, and progress creates new problems instead of simply making the game easier.
Our current work is exploring a survival sandbox built from those principles. The goal is not comfort or power fantasy. It is pressure, trade-offs, and consequence: moving because staying put has a cost, settling because movement has a cost, finding an advantage and then discovering what that advantage attracts.
That does not mean constant punishment. It means making systems that respect the player enough to push back. Failure should create stories. Scarcity should emerge from use and conflict. The world should leave traces of what happened before you arrived, and it should keep changing after you leave.
Figment Game Studios is still early in its public life. This site will grow alongside the work: development notes first, then fuller pages for each game as they become ready to show.
For now, this is the place to follow the studio taking shape: the design problems, the technical decisions, the prototypes, and the slow process of turning a presence into something playable.
